Jeev Milkha Singh secures tied seventh at True Thailand Classic

India’s Jeev Milkha Singh posted a tied seventh finish at the True Thailand Classic on Sunday after signing for a final round of five-under-67.

Jeev, who climbed 15 places on the final day, totalled 11-under-277 for the week to finish seven strokes behind eventual champion Scott Hend of Australia at the event co-sanctioned by the European & Asian Tours.

The 44-year-old Singh, a former two-time Asian Tour number one, enjoyed his first top-10 in three years at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin.

“In this game, the most important thing is trust. It’s been great to come back to this position. I’ve been working hard. I thought I found it at the Maybank Championship Malaysia but it’s taken a few weeks.

“At last it’s here. I’m happy with how it’s ended here, 11-under-par in windy conditions. It’s my first top-10 of the year and a lot more to come,” said Singh.

Jeev’s top-10 in Thailand could signal a welcome return to form for the seasoned pro who won his last event in 2012. He’ll now be counted among the contenders at his National Open this week, the Indian Open 2016.

“You just have to keep your chin up and try every single day. I kept doing that. The last few weeks, I wasn’t doing good and I said “hey, I can’t let myself go down again like that and I just gave it a go and it worked out well,” said Singh.

“The game has been there and I putted really well this week, that’s why I shot the numbers I had.

“After the first round, I found something in my putting and I rolled it beautifully the last three days,” said the Indian.

Chiragh Kumar’s last round of 68 ensured that he too, like Jeev, gained 15 spots on the final day to finish tied 19th at eight-under-280.

Arjun Atwal’s 66 was the best score among the Indians in the fourth round. It pushed him up 32 places to tied 25th at seven-under-281. Rashid Khan (72) was also tied 25th.

Gaganjeet Bhullar was tied 35th at six-under-282 and Himmat Rai was tied 45th at four-under-284.
