Rahil Gangjee earns full card for 2013 Asian Tour season
Kolkata’s Rahil Gangjee earned playing rights for the 2013 Asian Tour season after he finished tied 21st at the Final Stage of the Asian Tour Qualifying School held at Hua Hin, Thailand. Gangjee, who totalled five-under-280 for the tournament, emerged as the only Indian to earn a full card. The top 41 players earned cards for the 2013 season.
The 34-year-old Gangjee (72-68-72-68) had an inspiring final stretch in round four as he made four birdies on the last five holes to post a 68. Rahil, a winner on the Asian Tour, finished eight strokes behind the winner Chan Kim of the United States.
All the other five Indians who made the second round cut missed out on full playing rights for 2013 as they finished outside the top 40 and ties.
Vikrant Chopra missed the qualifying mark by one shot as he ended up in tied 42nd place with a three-under-282 total.
Rashid Khan and Ajeetesh Sandhu also narrowly missed the card ending the week with identical totals of two-under-283 to be placed tied 51st. Rashid Khan had the card and a top-40 place well within his grasp until he made a triple bogey on the final hole.
Chiragh Kumar was tied 77th at one-over-286 while Abhijit Singh Chadha was placed 107th at eight-over-293.
