SSP Chawrasia in tied second on penultimate day of Myanmar Open

Anirban Lahiri slips to tied 37th in the US

India’s SSP Chawrasia (66-66-68) ended round three of the Leopalace21 Myanmar Open in tied second place at 16-under-200 after shooting a solid four-under-68. He trailed the leader South Africa’s Shaun Norris by seven strokes. Norris shot a sensational 11-under-61 on Saturday.

Chawrasia, the overnight joint leader along with Norris, shared joint second place on day three along with Japan’s Azuma Yano, Korea’s Jeunghun Wang and Junwon Park.

SSP made an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys in his third round at the event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO).

Rahil Gangjee fired a 66 in round three to climb from overnight tied 19th to tied sixth at 13-under-203.

The Indian duo of Arjun Atwal and Rashid Khan were tied 19th at 11-under-205.

Shiv Kapur was tied 39th at eight-under-208 and Himmat Rai was a further shot back in tied 43rd.

Meanwhile at the PGA Tour’s Waste Management Phoenix Open, India’s Anirban Lahiri struggled to a second round three-over-74 to slip to a share of 37th place in round two.

Lahiri started his campaign promisingly with a 66 but could not continue his fine run as he marked his three bogeys, a double-bogey and two birdies to post a two-day total of two-under-140, eight shots back of American leader James Hahn.
