Rashid Khan excited to return to happy hunting ground
Delhi’s Rashid Khan will be leading India’s charge at the second edition of the TAKE Solutions India Masters, an Asian Development Tour (ADT) and Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) co-sanctioned event, scheduled to be held at Eagleton – The Golf Village from October 28 to 31, 2015. The ADT, which was launched in 2010, is designed in the same structure as the Web.com Tour in America and the European Challenge Tour in Europe. The ADT is the stepping-stone to the Asian Tour and the exciting world of international golf.
Rashid, a winner of two Asian Tour titles, is India’s most successful golfer at the international level in the current field. He will therefore be one of the pre-tournament favourites at the US$ 120,000 event that has increased the prize purse by 71 percent from US$ 70,000 of the inaugural edition last year.
After enjoying an incredible rookie season on the Asian Tour in 2014 where he claimed two titles and finished inside the top-10 of the Order of Merit, Khan had a slow start to the 2015 season with a tied 24th at the Indian Open being his best in the first half of the year.
The wiry 24-year-old has however shown signs of regaining top form with two top-10 finishes in Asia earlier this month. He was tied third at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters and tied eighth at the Venetian Macau Open in October which lifted him to 25th place in the Order of Merit.
“I feel I’m getting back to the top of my game and a couple of good finishes in Asia could help me improve on my 10th position in the money rankings last year. The TAKE Solutions India Masters is a great preparation ground for me for the crucial final stretch of the Asian Tour season,” said Rashid.
Khan has the added advantage of playing at one of his favoured venues where he has won an event in the past.
“I enjoy playing at Eagleton. I’ve had good results in both tournaments that I’ve played here as a professional. Besides winning an event last season, I also secured an eighth place finish here in 2013. I feel this course favours my game and I’m therefore quite confident of my chances here,” added Rashid.
Rashid will also be eying at six Official World Golf Ranking points that the winner gets in ADT event and will improve the chances of sealing his berth for the 2016 Olympic Games that is going to be held in Rio de Janeiro in August.
So come October 28 and we can expect some early fireworks from the prolific Rashid Khan in the lead up to Diwali.
