Moinuddin Malak and Vinod Kumar lead their respective teams to victory in the Pro-Am events of the McLeod Russel Tour Championship 2014

The two Pro-Am events of the McLeod Russel Tour Championship 2014, played at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) on December 23 and 24, saw India’s leading professionals play alongside amateur golfers from all over the country.   

The tournament week got off to a rousing start as the two Pro-Ams received an overwhelming response. A total of 282 amateurs participated in the Pro-Am events.

The Pro-Am events were played in the Strokeplay (nett) format with all amateurs receiving 3/4th of their original handicap as their allowance. Maximum strokes permitted were 18. Two best nett scores per hole were counted towards the team total. The team score comprised the aggregate of the professional score and two best nett scores on each hole over 18 holes.

The first Pro-Am event, played on Tuesday, was won by the team led by Pune-based professional Moinuddin Malak. Malak’s team comprised of amateurs Mr. Nikhil Sonwal, Mr. Karan Verma and Ms. Neha Agarwal. Their team total was 127. Malak’s team won on the basis of their score on the last hole.

The runner-up team on Tuesday was led by Delhi-based professional Kapil Kumar. Kapil’s team consisted of amateurs Mr. Savindar Singh, Mr. R S Virdi and Mr. Dipak Barma. Their team total was 127.   

The second Pro-Am event, played on Wednesday, was won by the team led by professional Vinod Kumar of Delhi. Vinod’s team featured amateurs Mr. Mukesh Kapoor, Mr. Nikhil Poddar and Mr. Luv Jhingon. Their team total was 129 and they won on the basis of a count-back of the last nine holes.

The runner-up team on Wednesday was led by professional Rahil Gangjee of Kolkata. The amateurs in his team were Mr. Sunny Uthup, Mr. Siddharth Rai and Master Akhil Khaitan. Their team total was 129.

The spot prizes were sponsored by French cosmetic brand L’Occitane, Celeste Chocolates and Four Fountains Spa.

A total of ninety-four amateurs walked away with the spot prizes.
