Anirban Lahiri secures tied 10th place at Maybank Malaysian Open

Finishes as best placed Asian

India's Anirban Lahiri (72-72-66-70) fired a two-under-70 in the final round of the Maybank Malaysian Open to secure a creditable tied 10th finish. Anirban ended up with a total score of eight-under-280 to be placed 10 shots behind the winner Lee Westwood of England.

Lahiri, the best placed Asian in the field, turned in 33 highlighted by a hat-trick of birdies from the third hole to the fifth before dropping his only shot on the 13th hole.

“I played really good but I'm disappointed I didn't make any birdies on the back nine. All in all it has been a solid week but I can't help but feel that I left a lot out there. I've been hitting it really good. I hit 16 greens but didn't make the putts which I needed to. I gave myself a lot of opportunities but couldn't hole the birdies,” said Anirban.

“I came in this week feeling good about my game. I really wanted to contend badly. I tried a bit too hard and forced the issue. I didn't focus on what I needed to do. It got better on the weekend and it is good that I'm playing consistently,” he added.

Lahiri has now moved up to fourth position on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and lies one spot behind Rashid Khan who is the highest-placed Indian in the rankings.

Shiv Kapur's final round 71 helped him claim tied 31st place at three-under-285. SSP Chowrasia was a further shot back in tied 33rd position.

Rahil Gangjee ended the week in tied 45th place at even-par-288 while Chiragh Kumar took a share of 55th place at two-over-290.

Rashid Khan's six-over-294 total placed him tied 68th.
