Jeev Milkha Singh off to a solid start at The Senior Open with a 69, lies tied fourth

Jeev Milka Singh struck an opening round score of two-under 69 at The Senior Open Presented by Rolex at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales to occupy tied fourth position.

Jeev, playing his second Senior Open and fourth Senior Major, trailed the leader Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain by three shots.

Germany’s Alex Cejka and American Mario Tiziani were in tied second place with scores of 68.

Four-time DP World Tour winner Singh mixed four birdies and two bogeys on Thursday as he returned to the first links golf course he ever played at the age of 15.

A tough day on the South Wales links meant Jeev was only one of 12 players to card an under-par round. Golf legend Vijay Singh of Fiji shared the fourth spot with Jeev.

Jeev said, “Overall the game was really good today. I expected myself to hole more putts, but I'll take it, two under par on this golf course. It's a tough golf course that demands a lot of distance control, especially in the wind because the wind is up there right now and you've got to keep it low and you've got to have the right bounces.”

The other two Indians in the field, Jyoti Randhawa (76) and Arjun Atwal (78), were placed tied 92nd and tied 117th respectively.
