Khalin Joshi maintains lead in round two of the Asian Games Selection Trials
Bengaluru’s Khalin Joshi maintained his lead in round two of the Asian Games Selection Trials being held at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club (RCGC) in Kolkata.
Khalin, the overnight leader by one shot following his first round of 67, extended his lead to two shots after he posted a bogey-free four-under 68 on Wednesday that took his total to nine-under 135.
Olympian SSP Chawrasia (69-68) and the in-form Aman Raj (69-68) were tied second at seven-under 137.
Chawrasia, playing at his home course, had five birdies against one bogey in his 68, while Aman Raj, a winner on the PGTI earlier this season, produced six birdies and two bogeys during his round of 68.
The 2010 Asian Games team silver medallist, Rashid Khan was sole fourth at six-under 138, while Yuvraj Singh Sandhu and Ajeetesh Sandhu were a further shot back in tied fifth position.
Viraj Madappa shot the day’s best card of 66 to rise nine spots to tied seventh place along with Veer Ahlawat and amateur Shaurya Bhattacharya at three-under 141.
The three-day (54-hole) event will decide the two players who will join automatic qualifiers Anirban Lahiri and Shubhankar Sharma (who qualified based on the Official World Golf Ranking) in the Indian team for the Asian Games which is scheduled to be staged in the Chinese city of Hangzhou from September 23 – October 8, 2023.
The Asian Games has opened its doors to professional golfers for the first time. In the men’s category, there are 14 professionals and five amateurs competing at the Selection Trials.
