Silverglades Delhi to face-off against DLF Gurgaon in Louis Philippe Cup final

Silverglades Delhi and DLF Gurgaon made it to the final of the Louis Phillipe Cup 2013. While Silverglades Delhi defeated defending champions Navratna Ahmedabad 2-1, DLF Gurgaon overcame hosts Jaypee Greens Greater Noida by the same margin in the semi-finals.

In the first match of the semi-final encounter between Silverglades Delhi and Navratna Ahmedabad, Rashid Khan shot a 73 against Vikrant Chopra’s 75 to give the Delhi team a 1-0 lead. The Ahmedabad team however, looked favorites to reach their second consecutive final as both its players Mithun Perera and Vinod Kumar were ahead of their Delhi counterparts with just one hole to play.

While Mithun (70) went on to seal a four-stroke win over Shamim Khan (74), Vinod (73) slipped with a triple bogey on the final hole to lose by one stroke to Himmat Singh Rai (72). Vinod found the water hazard twice on the final hole. Delhi thus won the encounter 2-1. Himmat made three birdies and three bogeys in his round.

"I didn’t really get going today but made some important par saves and crucial birdies on the back-nine. My par save on the 18th hole from just short of the green helped our team make the final as Vinod dropped three strokes on the same hole. We as a team have been constantly encouraging each other and that has really worked for us," said Himmat.

In the other semi-final encounter, Jyoti Randhawa (69), the 2002 Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, posted a clinical six-stroke win against R Murthy (75) to give DLF Gurgaon a 1-0 lead over Jaypee Greens Greater Noida. Randhawa made four birdies against one bogey on Friday.

Randhawa’s teammate Digvijay Singh (70), on the other hand, recovered well from a slow start to prevail over Sanjay Kumar (77) by seven strokes and as a result give DLF Gurgaon an unassailable 2-0 lead. Digvijay, who was playing with a stiff neck, made four birdies and two bogeys while Sanjay had five bogeys in his round.

Greater Noida’s Gaganjeet Bhullar (67) gave his team a consolation win when he outplayed DLF Gurgaon’s Abhinav Lohan (77) by 10 strokes. The final scoreline read 2-1 in favour of DLF Gurgaon.

Speaking after the semi-finals, Randhawa said, “I played consistent golf and converted all the putts that I needed to. Importantly, I just had one bogey in the day and did not make too many errors. The victory was that much more special because I was playing with a finger injury on my right hand. It feels great to make the final and be in contention for the title."

Shubhkamna Noida advanced to the play-off for the 5th-6th place after beating TAKE Chennai 2-1.

The experienced Mukesh Kumar (68) from Take Chennai got the better of Shubhkamna Noida’s Jeev Milkha Singh (74). However, Abhijit Singh Chaddha (67) and Ashok Kumar’s (71) wins against Khalin Joshi (70) and Anura Rohana (72) respectively saw the Noida team through.

Shubhkamna Noida will now face Puravankara Bangalore for the fifth position. The Bangalore team defeated AVT Kolkata 2-1.
