Anirban Lahiri fires final round 69 to finish tied ninth at Travelers Championship, bags third top-10 of season, moves to 95 in FedEx Cup ranking, 101 in world ranking

After a fiery five-under-65 in round three, Anirban Lahiri of India came up with a relatively quieter one-under-69 in round four of the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship to finish tied ninth at 12-under-268.

Lahiri (67-67-65-69), who was overnight tied third and five off the lead, slipped six places on Sunday after marking his card with five birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey at the TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut.

The tournament was won by American Bubba Watson who delivered a final round of 63 to end up with a tally of 17-under-263.

Anirban, the 2015 Asia No. 1, bagged his third top-10 and second-best finish of the current PGA Tour season. His best finish of the season had come at The CJ Cup at Nine Bridges in Korea last October where he claimed tied fifth.

Lahiri has now climbed from 112 to 101 in the world rankings and from 111 to 95 in the FedEx Cup rankings. Anirban’s gain of 16 spots in the FedEx Cup rankings is a major boost for his chances of retaining his card.

The two-time European Tour winner couldn’t make inroads on the front-nine as he made two birdies and two bogeys to be even-par at the turn. Lahiri’s birdie on the 12th was negated by a double-bogey on the par-4 14th where he struggled with his hitting and found the green in four shots.

However, he came back well towards the end by setting up short birdie putts on the 17th and 18th to pick up two strokes and close with a 69.

Elsewhere, at the Asian Tour's Kolon Korea Open, Chikkarangappa S finished as the highest-placed Indian in tied 28th at one-over-285.
