Shubhankar Sharma signs off with a 67 at Volvo China Open, secures tied 14th

Shubhankar Sharma secured tied 14th place at the Volvo China Open after he signed off with a final round of five-under-67.

Shubhankar’s (69-72-68-67) final round effort lifted him 11 places from his overnight tied 25th position and took his total to 12-under-276 at the event co-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours.

The tournament was won by Swede Alexander Bjork who totaled 18-under-270 at the Topwin Golf & Country Club in Beijing.

Shubhankar’s final round consisted of six birdies and a bogey. The Indian star currently occupies second position in the European Tour Race to Dubai behind American Patrick Reed.

Sharma said, "The week has been decent. It’s not great but it’s decent. I think I could have done a little bit better. I left a few shots out there but that’s golf. I am happy that I finished in double digits under-par.

"I was sick earlier but not that sick. It was just slight fever and cold. It’s alright. I am happy to be leading the Asian Tour Habitat for Humanity Standings now but it’s still a long way to go for the season. I just have to keep building on my position. We will see what happens.

"I am going home for three weeks after this and then I will be heading to the United States for The Colonial. My goal is to win another tournament. That’s the long-term goal. I just have to keep playing well and have more and more solid weeks leading up to the end of the year."

Arjun Atwal was the next best Indian as he took tied 32nd place at eight-under-280.

Among the other Indians, Gaganjeet Bhullar ended tied 63rd at three-under-285, Shiv Kapur was tied 66th at even-par-288 and Khalin Joshi was 68th at six-over-294.

Elsewhere, at the Japan Golf Tour’s The Crowns tournament, which was played in Aichi, Japan, India’s Rahil Gangjee finished tied 57th at six-over-286.

Rahil, who won the Panasonic Open Golf Championship in Osaka the previous week, continues to be the leader in the Japan Golf Tour's Money list.
