PGTI Players Championship at Chandigarh Golf Club to begin on September 17th
· Jyoti Randhawa, Mukesh Kumar, Shamim Khan, Chiragh Kumar top names in the field
· Sujjan Singh, Harendra Gupta, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Abhijit Singh Chadha to lead local challenge
The Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) has announced the PGTI Players Championship which will be played at the Chandigarh Golf Club from September 17 – 20, 2013. The tournament offers a prize purse of Rs. 30 lakh.
The PGTI Players Championship will feature some of the top names of Indian professional golf such as Jyoti Randhawa, Mukesh Kumar (defending champion and current Rolex Ranking leader), Shamim Khan (reigning Rolex Ranking champion), Chiragh Kumar, Rahil Gangjee, Ashok Kumar, Rashid Khan, Om Prakash Chouhan, Shankar Das, Manav Jaini, Digvijay Singh, Gaurav Ghei and Vinod Kumar, to name a few. Leading the local challenge will be Sujjan Singh, Harendra Gupta, Ajeetesh Sandhu, Abhijit Singh Chadha, Harmeet Kahlon and Ranjit Singh among others. Kunal Bhasin (Australia) and Md Zamal Hossain Mollah (Bangladesh) are the top professionals from overseas playing the event.
Mr. Padamjit Sandhu, Director, PGTI, said, “The PGTI looks forward to returning to Chandigarh for the PGTI Players Championship which marks the beginning of the second half of PGTI’s 2013 season. The presence of top Indian professionals with a strong local flavor makes for a riveting contest. With the race for a spot at the McLeod Russel Tour Championship and the Rolex Player of the Year award wide open, we expect to witness exciting golf over the week.”
Mr. Sandeep Sandhu, Captain, Chandigarh Golf Club, said, “We are looking forward to the top Indian professionals coming to Chandigarh. The golf course has been set to provide a challenge to the golfers while at the same time there are a few ‘high risk high reward’ opportunities. We are hoping the local professionals will do well taking advantage of the local knowledge.”
The venue for the event, the Chandigarh Golf Club, has been the cradle of Indian professional golf, having produced many top-class players over the years. It is known for its tight fairways and thick rough. The lush green fairways are bounded by groves of trees which funnel out onto the green.
