Arjun Atwal soars to tied fourth at Quicken Loans National
India’s Arjun Atwal kept alive his hopes of a second win on the PGA Tour after he carded a three-under-67 which helped him soar to tied fourth in the second round of the Quicken Loans National on Friday.
Atwal, an eight-time Asian Tour winner and the first Indian to win on the PGA Tour, is chasing his first victory in the United States since his historic triumph at the 2010 Wyndham Championship. He shot five birdies against two bogeys in round two that took his total to five-under-135.
The 44-year-old will start the weekend rounds five shots behind the leader David Lingmerth of Sweden.
Making only his fifth start of the year, Atwal was delighted with his week’s work so far where he is playing in the tournament for the third straight year on a sponsor’s invite courtesy of his good friend and tournament host, Tiger Woods.
“They were all a month apart,” Atwal said. “It’s been hard to get into any kind of rhythm. But I finished like 15th at my last Asian Tour event in Japan, so the game feels pretty good.”
