Chiragh Kumar climbs to tied second in round 2
Chiragh Kumar followed up his first round 68 with a 69 in round two of the Yeangder Tournament Players Championship in Chinese Taipei to climb to tied second. His total now stands at seven-under-137 as he trails the leader Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand by one shot.
Chiragh, who has been struggling with a flu since day one, fuelled his ambitions of winning a first Asian Tour title with a solid 69 that featured four birdies and a bogey. Kumar is currently tied for second along with Hsu Mong-nan of Chinese Taipei. The Indian was delighted to rediscover some of his best form after struggling with an ankle injury last season.
“I just hope to continue my form. I’m going back to rest now because I don’t have any energy to practice. My ankle is alright now but hopefully the pain won’t come back,” said Kumar, whose best finish on the Asian Tour has been second place at the 2011 Indian Open.
Defending champion Gaganjeet Bhullar (73-69) bounced back with a 69 for tied ninth. His total reads two-under-142. Bhullar stands a chance to qualify for the WGC-HSBC Champions in China in October if he can remain in the top-two position on the Order of Merit before the cut-off date on October 14.
Rahil Gangjee (70-74) was the only other Indian to make the cut besides Chiragh and Gaganjeet. Gangjee’s two-day total of even-par-144 placed him tied 22nd.
The halfway cut was set at four-over-par 148 with a total of 77 players advancing into the weekend rounds.
