Jeev Milkha Singh through to matchplay round in Perth

India's Jeev Milkha Singh has made it to Sunday’s matchplay showdown at the ISPS HANDA World Super 6 Perth, the AUD$1.75 million event, which is tri-sanctioned by the European Tour, Asian Tour and PGA Tour of Australasia.

The four-time European Tour winner followed up his first two rounds of 70 and 68 with another two-under-70 in round three that had taken his total to eight-under-208 and moved him into tied 20th place.

Since the top-24 players were to make it through to the final round of matchplay, Jeev then went into a playoff with seven others to decide the last five spots for the final round on Sunday. He made par on the first playoff hole to earn his berth in the last round.

Jeev Milkha Singh will now take on David Bransdon of Australia in Match No. 7 on Sunday.

An excited Jeev said, “This is a very good format and it’s very exciting. You’re used to making the cut after two days and now you’re trying to make another one after three days followed by a matchplay.

“I’ve been involved in several matchplay events in my professional career including captaining Team Asia in the EurAsia Cup last year. I like to play aggressive golf and it’s going to be fun.

“I like matchplay format as you can put the pressure on the other person by making sure you hit the second shot close to the hole.”

The other three Indians who made the halfway cut, Gaganjeet Bhullar (72-69-68), SSP Chawrasia (71-68-71) and Chiragh Kumar (70-69-72) missed the qualification mark for the matchplay rounds.

At the end of round three, Bhullar was tied 28th at seven-under-209, Chawrasia was tied 35th at six-under-210 and Chiragh was tied 39th at five-under-211.

Sunday’s finale will bring together five rounds of six-hole matchplay battles.

The top eight players will receive a bye into the second match play round.
