Chawrasia, Randhawa occupy tied third on penultimate day in Manila

Bhullar in tied seventh

India’s S.S.P. Chwarasia signed for a one-under-71 in round three of the US$1 million Resorts World Manila Masters to share third place along with compatriot Jyoti Randhawa at 13-under-203.

Randhawa, the overnight leader by two shots, returned a two-over-74 on day three to slip two places.

Thailand’s Sutijet Kooratanapisan was the leader at 16-under-200 while another Thai, teen sensation Phachara Khongwatmai was two shots behind in second position.

Chawrasia withstood the challenging windy conditions by mixing his card with four birdies and three bogeys to gain one place from his overnight fourth that also put him in the mix for his first win abroad.

“I didn’t hit and putt the ball as well as compared to the last two days. The winds picked up in the afternoon which made play really challenging. There’s still another day left at this event and I’m looking forward to finishing off the week well,” said the Indian.

With all his four Asian Tour victories coming on home soil, the 38-year-old is eager to clinch his first title overseas, having put himself into a good position where he is just three shots back of Sutijet.

“I want to win outside India and that’s my next goal. That’s my focus and I’ll try my best,” said the Indian.

Gaganjeet Bhullar, who posted a 69 on day three, was just one shot behind Chawrasia and Randhawa in tied seventh.

Chikkarangappa’s (70) occupation of tied 12th place at 11-under-205 and Shiv Kapur (68) and Chiragh Kumar’s (69) presence in tied 17th at 10-under-206 made it six Indians in the top-20.

Shubhankar Sharma (69) ended the day in tied 35th at eight-under-208 while Jeev Milkha Singh (74) was tied 62nd at two-under-214.
