Rahul Bajaj and team win the Pro-Am event of Chief Minister's Meghalaya Open Golf 2016
The Pro-Am event of the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Open Golf 2016 played at the Shillong Golf Course on Wednesday was won by professional Rahul Bajaj and his team.
The Pro-Am, the pre-cursor to the main event which begins on Thursday, was played in the team stableford format where the team score comprised of the professional’s score and the two best amateur net scores out of three.
Noida-based professional Rahul Bajaj led his team to victory with a score of 120. Bajaj’s team comprised of amateurs Mr. John F Rymbai, Lt. Col. Rajat Sharma and Mr. P K Dubey.
Delhi professional Vinod Kumar’s team was second with a score of 115. Vinod’s team comprised of amateurs Lt. Col. Anwar Sheikh, Mr. Joydeep Bhattacharjee and Lt. Col. N Mahabir Singh.
Sri Lankan professional Anura Rohana’s team finished third with a score of 113. Rohana’s team comprised of amateurs Lt. Col. Rahul Josan, Mr. J L Mawlong and Mr. Z Bakshi.
In the junior category, the champion was Master Lakshya Bajaj with a score of 41.
The prize for the closest shot to the pin on hole no. 3 went to Col. Manish who landed it within six feet and three inches of the pin.
The prize for the longest drive on hole no. 6 was won by Mr. H Marwen who landed his drive at a distance of 267 yards.
The prize for the straightest drive on hole no. 11 was won by Mr. Vikas Agarwal who landed his shot two feet away from the centre of the fairway.
The prizes were given away by Mr. Zenith Sangma, Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Meghalaya.
Earlier in the day, Mr. A L Hek, MLA & Patron of Chief Minister's Meghalaya Open Golf, inaugurated the event with the ceremonial tee-off.
Mr. Hek along with the Meghalaya Golf Promoters’ Society (MGPS) members also inaugurated the renamed first hole which will now be called the “Sharing Blossoms” in memory of Mr. Sharing Singh, one of the leading golfers and football players to emerge from Meghalaya.
