SSP Chawrasia ends tied 50th in Rio, Anirban Lahiri is 57th
India's campaign in golf at the Rio Olympics ended on a disappointing note as SSP Chawrasia and Anirban Lahiri finished tied 50th and tied 57th respectively with scores of five-over-289 and 10-over-294.
Chawrasia, who shot scores of 71, 71 and 69 in the first three rounds, carded his highest score of the week, a seven-over-78, in the final round, to slip 28 places to tied 50th.
In contrast, Lahiri, who had returned scores of 74, 73 and 75 in the earlier rounds, posted his best score of the week, a one-over 72, in the final round, to stay static at the 57th spot.
Chawrasia, lying overnight tied 22nd, made an early birdie on the second before dropping a disastrous triple bogey on the third. He added a bogey on the seventh and a birdie on the eighth to make the turn at two-over.
SSP then stumbled with three bogeys and a double bogey from the 11th to the 14th hole.
Lahiri was one-under after the front-nine but a couple of bogeys on the 12th and 13th and a double bogey on the 15th pegged him back. He finally ended his campaign on a positive note with birdies on the 16th and 18th.
PGTI member Md Siddikur Rahman of Bangladesh finished 58th at 11-over-295.
Britain's Justin Rose (67), Sweden's Henrik Stenson (68) and USA's Matt Kuchar (63) won the gold, silver and bronze respectively after totaling 268, 270 and 271 after four rounds.
