Chawrasia in tied 30th, Lahiri tied 51st on day two in Rio
SSP Chawrasia carded a second successive even-par-71 to be placed tied 30th while Anirban Lahiri returned a disappointing two-over-73 to be placed tied 51st after the second round of the golf event at the Rio Olympics on Friday.
Chawrasia dropped three bogeys and a double bogey against five birdies on the second day to aggregate even-par-142, while Lahiri totalled five-over-147 after dropping five bogeys against three birdies in round two.
Australia’s Marcus Fraser continued in the lead with a total of 10-under-132.
One stroke adrift was Belgium’s Thomas Pieters (66) followed by Swede Henrik Stenson (68) with totals of 133 and 134 respectively.
Chawrasia was in trouble early as he dropped a bogey and a double bogey on the second and third holes respectively. He then rallied with four birdies over the next six holes to make the turn at one-under.
SSP had a poor start to the back-nine, having bogeyed the 10th and 11th. He finally extracted a birdie on the 17th to finish with an even-par.
Lahiri, on the other hand, dropped four bogeys and a long birdie on the front nine to make the turn at three-over.
He again dropped a bogey at the 14th but recovered some lost ground with birdies on the 16th and 18th to end the day with a two-over.
Chawrasia and Lahiri had started the week with scores of even-par-71 and three-over-74 respectively to be placed tied 27th and tied 50th at the end of the first round on Thursday.
PGTI member Md Siddikur Rahman (75-70) of Bangladesh moved up 10 places from his overnight tied 56th to tied 46th as a result of his second round of one-under-70 that included four birdies and three bogeys. Siddikur’s two-day total stood at three-over-145.
