Anirban Lahiri makes fabulous start in Texas with opening round five-under-65

Lies tied second, one off lead

Anirban Lahiri, the reigning Asia No. 1, posted an opening five-under-65 to sit in tied second place at the PGA Tour's Dean and Deluca Invitational in Fort Worth, Texas on Thursday.

The 28-year-old Indian, ranked 56th in the Official World Golf Ranking, traded seven birdies against two bogeys to trail leader Bryce Molder of the United States by one shot at the Colonial Country Club.

Lahiri took a share of second place along with Americans Patrick Reed and Webb Simpson.

“I hit it pretty good all day,” Lahiri said. “I got my focus back after that miss on one and got rolling. The last nine holes we played were ideal for scoring. If you can find enough fairways you can really take advantage.”

“You have to think your way around. I really enjoy tracks like this. It reminds me of the Delhi Golf Club, which is one of my favourite courses back home in India,” added Lahiri.

Meanwhile, at the European Tour's BMW PGA Championship being played in England, the Indian duo of SSP Chawrasia and Jeev Milkha Singh occupied tied 33rd place after posting scores of one-under-71 in round one. They were six shots behind the lead.
