Chikka gunning for third ADT title, lies second ahead of final round in Malaysia
Crucial world ranking points at stake for the Indian
Chikkarangappa S of India, the halfway joint leader at the PGM Northport Glenmarie Championship, returned a clinical third round of five-under-67 to stay in the hunt at the Asian Development Tour (ADT) event in Malaysia.
Chikka’s total of 13-under-203 placed him second in the penultimate round, just one shot behind leader Gavin Green of Malaysia.
Chikka (64-72-67), who came up with an eagle, five birdies and two bogeys on Friday, will now be gunning for his third ADT title at the RM200,000 (approximately US$46,600) event.
The winner of the last two editions of ADT’s TAKE Solutions India Masters is also in line to earn some crucial world ranking points with a good finish this week which could pave the way for his final charge to grab the second spot in the Indian team for the Rio Olympics, behind Anirban Lahiri.
The 22-year-old is currently ranked 431 in the world, far behind the second-highest ranked Indian at the moment, SSP Chawrasia, who currently lies 233rd.
With Green and the in-form Chikka being four and three shots clear of the rest respectively, the latter is expected to be the biggest threat to the former going into the final round.
