Lahiri stays in contention with a third round 70 at Hotel Fitness Championship, placed three off lead in second place
India’s Anirban Lahiri (69-65-70), held on to his overnight second place with a two-under-70 in round three of the Hotel Fitness Championship, which is the first leg of the Web.Com finals. Anirban’s three-day total of 12-under-204 placed him three shots behind leader D.H. Lee of Korea.
The 28-year-old fired six birdies against two bogeys and a double-bogey on the closing hole at the Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Saturday. Anirban is aiming to finish inside the top-25 of the Web.Com finals in order to earn his first PGA Tour card.
Lahiri hung in there after an uncharacteristic ball-striking performance. He hit only nine greens in regulation.
“I was just grinding all day. It’s hard because I was hitting it all over the shop. But all in all, I’m just three back. If I can put another good 18 holes together tomorrow we’ll see if I can get over the line,” said Lahiri, who will tee it up for the International Team at the Presidents Cup next month.
“My game is usually a ball-striking game. It’s not a scrambling game. It’s kind of weird for me to be doing what I’m doing, but having said that I’m proud because I’ve obviously improved on that aspect. Now I just want the real Anirban to show up tomorrow,” added Lahiri, who enjoyed a chip-in birdie from off the green on the par-five 12th hole.
At the Asian Development Tour’s Thongchai Jaidee Foundation tournament, Himmat Rai claimed tied 29th place at seven-under-281 while Chiragh Kumar was tied 42nd at three-under-285. The tournament was won by Thailand’s Kiradech Aphibarnrat who totalled 24-under-264.
