Lahiri continues fine form, looks good to make first cut at PGA Championship

Anirban Lahiri continued his fine form at the PGA Championship on Friday, standing at a total of four-under through 13 holes of his second round at Whistling Straits when play was suspended due to inclement weather.

The Indian star, who currently leads the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit, sank three birdies on the 11th, 16th and third holes and dropped a shot on the 17th to be two-under for the day and in tied 15th place. Lahiri was five shots adrift of the joint leaders, the Australian duo of Jason Day and Matt Jones.

Anirban, who shot a two-under-70 in round one, is now looking good to make his first ever cut at the PGA Championship. The projected cut at the moment is two-over. Lahiri had missed the cut in his maiden appearance at the PGA Championship last year. However, so far in 2015, he has made the cut in two out of three Majors (US Masters & British Open).

The 28-year-old capitalized on both par-5s on the back-nine by picking up birdies. He made a good chip-putt on the 11th and a two-on two-putt on the 16th. Lahiri missed the green on the par-3 17th and then missed the 13-feet par putt by a whisker to drop his first bogey of the round. He thereafter made a magnificent 23-feet birdie conversion on the third. Anirban missed another birdie on the following hole by a hair’s breadth immediately before play was suspended.

Lahiri will come out to complete the remaining five holes of his second round when play resumes at 1730 hrs Indian time on Saturday. The third round will commence on Saturday after the completion of round two.
