Chikkarangappa in tied fifth after round one of Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage

Chikkarangappa shot a five-under-66 to be the highest-placed Indian at tied fifth after round one of the Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage in Hua Hin, Thailand. Chikka was one shot behind joint leaders Ryosuke Kinoshita of Japan, Australians Paul Spargo and Lee Jun-seok and Thailand's Danthai Boonma.

A total of 116 players teed off at the par-71 Springfield Royal Golf Club while another 115 players played at the par-72 Imperial Lakeview Golf Club for the first round of the Asian Tour Qualifying School Final Stage.

The top 80 players (+ ties) are set to make the halfway cut after round two while the top 40 players (+ ties) at the end of round four will earn their Asian Tour cards for 2015.

Angad Cheema shot a three-under-69 to be tied 23rd while Himmat Rai was tied 36th at two-under-70.

Abhijit Singh Chadha (71), Amardip Sinh Malik (71), C Muniyappa (71) and Abhinav Lohan (70) were all in tied 43rd at one-under.

Amateur Samarth Dwivedi (even-par-71) was in tied 70th and Khalin Joshi (one-over-73) was tied 98th.

Kapil Kumar (75) and Karan Taunk (74) were joint 142nd at three-over.

Divyanshu Bajaj and Shubhankar Sharma were tied 164th at four-over while Ajeetesh Sandhu and Feroz Ali Mollah were joint 189th at five-over.

Abhishek Jha shot a seven-over to be tied 210th.

Meanwhile, at the European Tour's Commercial Bank Qatar Masters, Shiv Kapur and Jeev Milkha Singh fired scores of two-under-70 in round one to be tied 35th, five strokes off the lead.
