The third round of the Paris Olympics 2024 men’s golf competition on Saturday proved to be a mixed day for Indian golfers as Shubhankar Sharma slipped nine places in the leaderboard to T34 while Gaganjeet Bhullar climbed four spots to T48.
Shubhankar, a former Asia No. 1, began his day at Le Golf National at T29. A disappointing 1-over 72 round with three bogies and two birdies saw him finish with a final score of 2-under 211.
Gaganjeet, meanwhile, carded a par-71 score for the penultimate round with three birdies and as many bogies as he continued to recover from the 4-over from the opening day.
The veteran Indian golfer is now at T48 after gaining four more spots to add to the four he gained on Friday. He is currently on two-over 215.
Heading into the final day of stroke play at Le Golf National, the two Indian golfers, both making their Olympic debuts, have the opportunity to log the best finish by an Indian male golfer at the Olympics to date.
The honour currently rests with Anirban Lahiri, who finished T42 at Tokyo 2020.
Heading into the final day of the Paris 2024 Olympics men’s golf event on Sunday, USA’s Xander Schauffele, the defending champion, and Spain's Jon Rahm held the joint lead at 14-under 199.
