Indian Men's Team among the top contenders at the Asian Games
In golf, India has a rather modest record in the history of the Games. In the 10 editions where this game was played, we have six medals. The last one came in 2010.
But as we head to China, the Indian pack has a very good chance. That’s because our players are in sound form and all of them are proven performers. Anirban Lahiri, Shubhankar Sharma, SSP Chowrasia and Khalin Joshi are in the team. On their day, they can beat anybody in the world.
Anirban, a two-time winner on the DP World Tour, is India’s highest ranked player at the moment. And, one of India’s all time greats. We say that because he has excelled in Asia and Europe and made a name for himself playing in the US in some of the biggest events. Also, he was part of the silver-medal winning team in 2006. The country has high expectations of him.
Shubhankar is the man in form. A two-time winner on the DP World Tour, he heads into the Asian Games riding high on his record top-10 finish at The Open in July.
When it comes to experience, who else can you think of. SSP is a legend of Indian golf. He has won some top events on the international stage including 4 titles on the DP World Tour. His presence in this team can just be the X factor that India wants.
When it comes to Khalin, he has been performing consistently in international events. Everyone in the circuit is aware of his abilities.
This is what makes this mix of players such a good unit. They have the experience of shining in top events.
They have what it takes to end India’s long wait for a team gold since 1982. And, all of them are capable of winning India's first individual gold medal, since 2002 when Shiv Kapur achieved the feat.
On the fairways and greens at Hangzhou, Team India has a super chance.
