Shubhankar Sharma finishes third at Nedbank Golf Challenge, rises 24 spots to 26th position on DP World Tour Rankings

Shubhankar Sharma claimed a creditable third place finish at nine-under 279 at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, two shots behind the winner Tommy Fleetwood of England at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa.

Shubhankar (72-69-69-69) struck a three-under 69 in the final round to rise four spots from his overnight tied seventh at the DP World Tour event also known as Africa's Major. New Zealand's Ryan Fox finished second, one shot ahead of the 26-year-old Indian.

Sharma's top-notch performance at Sun City lifted him 24 spots to 26th position in the DP World Tour Rankings.

The week marked Shubhankar's second top-10 of the season following his tied second at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January this year.

Sharma, a two-time winner on the DP World Tour and a winner in South Africa in the past, made an early charge on Sunday with five birdies on the first 10 holes. Shubhankar, the 2018 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award winner, made his first bogey of the day on the 11th but soon recovered with a birdie on the 14th thus capitalizing on all the four par-5s in round four.

However, Shubhankar's challenge ended when he bogeyed the 16th and 17th and when Fleetwood tapped in for par at the last, after almost sinking a huge birdie attempt.
