Anirban Lahiri secures tied third finish at King's Cup Golf Hua Hin, claims career-best third position on Asian Tour Order of Merit
Seals spot on Asian team for inaugural EurAsia Cup
Anirban Lahiri’s four-under-68 in the final round of the King’s Cup Golf Hua Hin lifted him from overnight seventh to a tied third place finish. The Indian thus achieved a career-best third position on the 2013 Asian Tour Order of Merit with earnings of US$ 514,479 for the season.
Lahiri (69-71-71-68) totalled nine-under-279 to share third place with the Thai duo of Chapchai Nirat and Prom Meesawat. Prayad Marksaeng, another Thai golfer, won the US$ 1 million event with a total score of 12-under-276.
Anirban Lahiri’s final round, his best of the week, was dotted with an eagle, three birdies and a bogey. Anirban came into the week placed fifth on the Asian Tour Order of Merit and managed to rise to third place at the end of the season’s last tournament.
Having finished in the top-4 of the Asian Tour Order of Merit, Anirban also sealed his place on the Asian Team for the inaugural EurAsia Cup scheduled to be played in Malaysia in March.
The 26-year-old, whose world ranking was 109 at the start of the week, said, “It has been a great season for me to finish on a high. I’ll work more on my fitness as well as my game and come back stronger for the new season. I should have made a couple of more birdies but I’m really happy with another solid week. There are lots of positives which I can take back from this week.”
Among the other Indians in the field, Rahil Gangjee claimed joint 12th place at three-under-285 while SSP Chowrasia (two-under-286) and Jyoti Randhawa (one-under-287) occupied tied 17th and tied 21st place respectively.
