Shubhankar Sharma claims season-best tied third at Open de Espana, moves up 25 spots to 55th place in Race to Dubai standings and 53 spots to 255th in world ranking

Shubhankar Sharma continued his hot streak on the European Tour by claiming a season-best tied third finish at the Open de Espana after he shot a five-under 66 in the final round on Sunday. Shubhankar thus moved up 25 spots to 55th place in Race to Dubai standings. He also rose 53 spots to 255th position in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR).

Sharma (67-64-70-66) totaled 17-under 267 for the week to finish two shots behind eventual champion Rafa Cabrera Bello of Spain. Rafa defeated compatriot Adri Arnaus in a playoff after the two players ended the regulation 72 holes with identical totals of 19-under 265.

Sharma's last round featured eight birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey. The two-time European Tour winner, who had made two eagles in his second round, had an eventful front-nine on day four as he sank four birdies and dropped a bogey and a double-bogey to make the turn at one-under for the day. He then stepped on the gas with four birdies on the back-nine including the last two holes.

Shubhankar shared third place along with Scotsman Grant Forrest and Frenchman Julien Guerrier.

Shubhankar, who has now posted four top-10s in the current European Tour season, improved upon his previous best this season which was tied eighth at the Made in Himmerland event played in Denmark in May this year.

Sharma has enjoyed a brilliant run on the European Tour in recent times having recorded four previous top-20s including two top-10s since August.

With Shubhankar already having sealed his card for next season, he is now also a major contender for making it into the top-60 for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai with just four more events remaining in the run-up to the season-finale.
