Anirban Lahiri finishes tied 42nd at Tokyo Olympics; Udayan Mane is 56th
India’s Anirban Lahiri shot a one-over-72 in the fourth and final round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics men’s golf event to end the week in tied 42nd place at a total score of five-under-279 at the Kasumigaseki Country Club on Sunday.
Lahiri (67-72-68-72), lying tied 28th at six-under-207, eight shots off the lead, after the penultimate round, dropped early bogeys on the second and fourth holes on Sunday. He managed to pull one shot back with a birdie on the ninth, but his up and down day continued on the back-nine where he sank two birdies but also conceded as many bogeys. He thus slipped 14 spots in the last round.
Olympic debutant Udayan Mane (76-69-70-72), the other Indian in the field of 60, also carded a 72 on the final day to drop one spot to 56th place at a total of three-over-287. Mane’s round featured four birdies and five bogeys.
American Xander Schauffele (68-63-68-67) won the gold medal after ending up with a winning total of 18-under-266. Slovakia’s Rory Sabbatini claimed the silver after shooting an Olympic record of 10-under-61 in the final round to move his total to 17-under-267.
Chinese Taipei’s Pan Cheng-tsung was the last man standing following a pulsating seven-way play-off for the bronze at Kasumigaseki Country Club which included Collin Morikawa of the U.S., Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, Great Britain’s Paul Casey, Mito Pereira of Chile, Colombian Sebastian Munoz and home hero Hideki Matsuyama of Japan. Bronze medal winner Pan’s total read 15-under-269.
