Anirban Lahiri hangs in there at tied 20th on day two; Udayan Mane improves with a 69

India’s Anirban Lahiri, who got off to a solid start with a four-under-67 in the first round of the Olympic Games men’s golf competition, had a mixed second day at the Kasumigaseki Country Club on Friday.

Lahiri, lying tied eighth and four off the lead after round one, dropped 12 places to tied 20th on day two after being even-par through 16 holes before play was suspended due to bad weather.

Anirban sank birdies on the sixth and 10th and bogeys on the second and 13th during his incomplete second round. His total stood at four-under.

Udayan Mane (76-69), the other Indian in the field of 60, shot a much-improved two-under-69 to move up three spots to tied 57th place at a total of three-over-145. Mane had early setbacks when he bogeyed the fourth and seventh but then salvaged his round with birdies on the eighth, 13th, 16th and 17th.

Play was suspended due to inclement weather with 16 of the 60 players yet to complete their second round. Lahiri was one of the 16 players who have not finished their second round.

The second round will resume at 0745 hrs local time on Saturday, July 31.

American Xander Schauffelle (68-63) was the clubhouse leader on day two at a total of 11-under-131 after he equalled the Olympic record score with his eight-under-63. Schauffele equalled the record set by Austrian Sepp Straka in round one on Thursday and American Matt Kuchar and Australian Marcus Fraser who shot 63 in the 2016 Rio Games.

Mexico’s Carlos Ortiz (65-67) was placed second in the clubhouse at a total of 10-under-132.
