Lahiri posts a 70, continues in tied seventh at halfway stage of Sanderson Farms Championship

Anirban Lahiri (66-70) posted a fighting two-under-70 to continue in tied seventh position after round two of the PGA Tour’s Sanderson Farms Championship.

Hitting only three fairways at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi, the 33-year-old carded four birdies against a double bogey for a two-day total of eight-under-136 to trail the leader American Keegan Bradley by five shots.

Lahiri made a promising start to his round with birdies on holes 12, 13 and 15. He sank a 25-footer on the 12th and then hit some accurate approach shots to five inches and two feet for his next two birdies.

An error on the sixth proved costly. After missing the fairway, Anirban landed in the greenside bunker and he needed four more shots to get into the hole for a double-bogey six before signing off with a 10-foot birdie on his last hole.

“I just didn’t hit enough fairways. The wind kept swirling and it was a guessing game between the lies and the wind all day. I lost my concentration around the turn and just had to grind it out. I got in a good practice session afterwards, so I’m looking to improve my play over the weekend,” said Lahiri, whose top-10 in the Dominican Republic last week earned him a spot at this week’s event.

Elsewhere, at the European Tour's Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, Shubhankar Sharma (70-67) fired a four-under-67 to move up 26 spots from his overnight tied 39th to tied 13th at five-under-137.

Sharma whose round featured an eagle, five birdies and three bogeys, said, "I was very confident with the way I was striking the ball but my putting wasn’t up to the mark last week. This week I did a lot of work on the greens with Ainesh Ahluwalia, my friend, who is on the bag this week. After the first round I did some more work on the greens. Today I made some very crucial putts so everything kind of fell in place."
