Dhruv Sheoran’s unique feat of winning in his first two starts after turning professional
Dhruv Sheoran of the DLF Golf & Country Club, Gurugram, achieved a unique feat on the PGTI when he won events in his first two starts after turning professional during the 2018 PGTI Feeder Tour season.
Sheoran, at age 23, won the first two events of the 2018 PGTI Feeder Tour season in the last week of May.
The rookie golfer, also the 2017 PGTI Qualifying School champion, bagged his maiden professional title after emerging triumphant by one shot at the first PGTI Feeder Tour event of the season which was played at the BSF Golf Club in Chhawla, New Delhi.
Dhruv (69-68-74), the joint leader at the end of round two, completed a wire-to-wire victory with a total of five-under-211. He thus set a record by becoming the first player to win in his first start as a professional on the PGTI.
The following week at the Aravalli Golf Club in Faridabad, Sheoran went one better by making it two wins in two starts after he signed off with a two-under-70 that helped him finish with a winning total of five-under-211 once again. Dhruv (71-70-70) was the only player in the field to post three sub-par rounds.
Sheoran, lying tied second and two off the lead going into the final round, trailed the leader Bikramjit Singh Sandhu by one shot with two holes to play. However, a composed Sheoran turned it around with birdies on the last two holes to snatch a spectacular victory from the jaws of defeat.
Sheoran said, “The key to my success over the last two weeks has been the fact that I’m not thinking too much on the course and instead just enjoying myself. My ball-control has also been excellent. These two wins have given me loads of confidence that will also help me perform better on the main tour in the future.”
