Key stakeholders of Indian professional golf for men and women - PGTI and WGAI - sign Affiliation Agreement

Both bodies to jointly work towards further raising the stature of the sport in the country

Two key stakeholders of Indian professional golf, the Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) and the Women’s Golf Association of India (WGAI), today signed an Affiliation Agreement to mark the beginning of a new era for the sport of golf in India.

 

The Affiliation Agreement which promises closer coordination between both bodies in the future as well as mutual recognition was signed by Mr. Gautam Thapar (President, PGTI), Mrs. Kavita Singh (President, WGAI) and Ms. Champika Nanda Sayal (Secretary General, WGAI), at Gurugram.

 

Mr. Gautam Thapar, President, PGTI, said, “This initiative in essence ensures that all professional golf in India and all professional golfers, both men and women, now stand united. We now seek to collectively work towards further raising the stature of the sport in the country. With broadened cooperation and more cohesion between the internationally-recognized PGTI and WGAI, the potential for growth in the future is immense.”

 

Mr. Srinivasan H R, Joint President, PGTI, said, “The affiliation is the need of the hour as it strengthens the ties between PGTI and WGAI, both well-established bodies, on the basis of reciprocity and mutual benefit. This big development will go a long way in ensuring that Indian professional golf continues its upward graph. WGAI’s association with PGTI reiterates the fact that both organizations share the same vision and promote the same values.”

 

Mrs. Kavita Singh, President, WGAI, said, “This agreement between WGAI & PGTI for exchange of information and ideas is an important milestone in the development of professional golf in India for both men and women. The need for two like-minded bodies with similar goals to work together in the larger interests of the sport cannot be over-emphasized. I am happy that an idea which has been on the anvil for some time has finally culminated in an agreement today.”

 

Ms. Champika Nanda Sayal, Secretary General, WGAI, said, “This strategic affiliation between WGAI & PGTI is a master stroke, a moment made possible by the evolution in Indian Golf. The cooperation agreement is indeed momentous! It is in the best interests of professional golfers in India, both men and women, and augurs well for the future of the game.”
