Shubhankar Sharma claims tied seventh at Italian Open with final round of 68, rises 70 spots to 266 in the world ranking

Sharma also moves up 33 places to 80 in the European Tour Race to Dubai Rankings

India's Shubhankar Sharma signed off with a three-under-68 in round four of the Italian Open to post a creditable tied seventh finish at a total of nine-under-275.

It was Shubhankar's second top-10 of the 2019 European Tour season following his tied sixth at the Hong Kong Open last year. Sharma, the reigning Asian Tour Order of Merit champion, made seven birdies and four bogeys at the Olgiata Golf Club on Sunday to rise six positions from his overnight tied 13th.

Shubhankar, the 2018 European Tour Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award winner, finished seven shots adrift of the winner Bernd Wiesberger of Austria.

The result lifted Sharma 70 places in the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) from 336 to 266, thus helping him emerge as the highest-ranked Indian in the world once again. Rashid Khan is now the second-highest ranked Indian at 268 while Gaganjeet Bhullar is third in the list at 275.

Shubhankar also gained 33 spots in the European Tour Race to Dubai Rankings as he moved up to 80.

India's SSP Chawrasia also fired a 68 in the last round to gain eight places and finish tied 57th at one-over-285.
