Anirban Lahiri fires 65 to be tied seventh on day one of WGC-Bridgestone Invitational; Gaganjeet Bhullar tied eighth in round one of Fiji International
Anirban Lahiri of India fired a five-under-par 65 for his lowest opening round in 2018 to tie in seventh place at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational on Thursday. Anirban trailed the leader Ian Poulter of England by three shots.
Lahiri, the 2015 Asian Tour number one, was hot off the blocks when he reeled in four birdies before dropping his only bogey of the day on the 10th hole. He swiftly recovered with birdies on holes 13 and 16 for his best score at Firestone Country Club.
The current Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Shubhankar Sharma of India was placed tied 63rd at two-over-72.
Elsewhere, at the European Tour and Asian Tour co-sanctioned Fiji International, Gaganjeet Bhullar of India struck an opening round of two-under-70 to be tied eighth, three off the pace.
Ajeetesh Sandhu's one-over-73 placed him tied 33rd.
Chiragh Kumar was tied 92nd with a score of 77 while Shiv Kapur was tied 117th after a round of 80.
