Anirban Lahiri fires four birdies on first five holes to post a 67 on Day 1 of Quicken Loans National, lies four off the lead
Anirban Lahiri posted a three-under-67 in the opening round of the PGA Tour's Quicken Loans National to end the day in tied 10th, four off the lead.
Americans Andrew Landry and J J Spaun held the lead at seven-under-63.
Lahiri, fresh from a top-10 finish at last week's Travelers Championship, was on fire in the initial stages of his round as he nailed four consecutive birdies from the second to the fifth.
On the stretch from the second to the fifth, Anirban struck his approach shots with pin-point precision and also produced two conversions from a range of 15 to 30 feet.
Lahiri then made pars all the way till the 17th. He closed the round with his only bogey of the day on the 18th.
Elsewhere at the European Tour's HNA Open De France, SSP Chawrasia and Shubhankar Sharma had disappointing starts as they carded scores of four-over-75 and five-over-76 respectively.
At the Asian Tour's Queen's Cup presented by Bangchak, Gaganjeet Bhullar shot a first round of three-under-68 to be the best-placed Indian in tied 25th. He trailed the leader, Thailand's Poom Saksansin, by five shots.
