Shubhankar Sharma bags tied 20th place at Fort Worth Invitational after final round flourish

India’s Shubhankar Sharma enjoyed a creditable tied 20th finish at the PGA Tour’s Fort Worth Invitational after a final round flourish of three-under-67.

Two-time European Tour winner Shubhankar, returning from a five-week break, had made a slow start at the Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, after an opening round of three-over-73.

However, the 21-year-old staged a brave fightback with rounds of 68, 66 and 67 over the next three days to end up with a total of six-under-274 and a top-20 finish. Sharma’s last round 67 helped him gain 18 places on the leaderboard.

Asian Tour Order of Merit leader Shubhankar finished 14 shots behind winner Justin Rose of England.

The week saw Sharma make his first cut in a full field PGA Tour event. The only cut he had made in his previous four stroke play events in the United States this year was at the WGC – Mexico Championship where he had finished an impressive tied ninth.

Anirban Lahiri, the other Indian in the field, finished tied 58th at two-under-278.
