Jyoti Randhawa secures tied fifth place at Resorts World Manila Masters
India’s Jyoti Randhawa carded a final round of one-under-71 to secure tied fifth place at the Asian Tour’s Resorts World Manila Masters on Sunday. Randhawa (70-64-67-71), the overnight joint leader, slipped four spots on the last day as he totalled 16-under-272 for the week at the US$1 million event.
Asian Tour rookie Micah Lauren Shin of the United States defeated Thailand’s Arnond Vongvanij at the first play-off hole to win after the duo were tied at 19-under-269 in regulation play at the Manila Southwoods Golf and Country Club.
Jyoti was looking set for his first international and Asian Tour victory since 2009 when he made three birdies on the front-nine to take the sole lead. But three bogeys between the 11th and the 14th dashed his title hopes as he slipped down the leaderboard and fell two shots behind the lead.
Randhawa, an eight-time Asian Tour winner, produced one birdie on the last four holes thus finishing three strokes behind joint leaders Shin and Vongvanij who headed into a playoff to decide the champion.
India’s SSP Chawrasia (66-68-69-71), the winner of the 2016 edition of the tournament, came up with a fourth round of 71 to end up as the second Indian to finish inside the top-10. Chawrasia’s tournament tally of 14-under-274 saw him claim tied 10th position.
Ajeetesh Sandhu continued his rich vein of form returning a 67 in round four that helped him take a share of 13th place at 13-under-275. Arjun Atwal was a further shot back in tied 17th.
Shiv Kapur and Gaganjeet Bhullar occupied tied 20th place at 11-under-277.
Among the other Indians, Honey Baisoya took tied 26th place at 10-under-278, Khalin Joshi ended tied 29th at nine-under-279, Himmat Rai was tied 39th at eight-under-280, Chiragh Kumar was tied 47th at six-under-282 and Sujjan Singh finished tied 68th at two-under-286.
