Valiant comeback by Lahiri in round three of CIMB Classic, shoots 64 to rise to sixth

India’s Anirban Lahiri mounted his comeback at the CIMB Classic with a flawless eight-under-64 to move to sixth place after the third round of the US$7 million event on Saturday.

After signing for a disappointing 73 on the second day, Lahiri showed his battling spirit by charging back into the mix with a spotless card marked by eight birdies and a three-day total of 12-under-204 at the PGA Tour and Asian Tour co-sanctioned event.

Anirban, the 2015 Asia No. 1, who trails American leader Pat Perez by nine shots, posted his best round of the week as he missed only one green while totalling 28 putts at the TPC Kuala Lumpur.

Lahiri gained 17 spots on the leaderboard with his performance on Saturday.

The 30-year-old, yet to win a PGA Tour title, registered his best result on the tour with a tied second finish at the Memorial Tournament earlier this year.

SSP Chawrasia, the other Indian in the field, was in tied 62nd at one-over-217.
