Indian team finishes tied 22nd at World Cup after final round of 68
The Indian team of SSP Chawrasia and Chikkarangappa S finished tied 22nd at the ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf in Melbourne after shooting a four-under-68 in the final round fourball session on Sunday.
Chawrasia and Chikka, who slipped two places from their overnight tied 20th place, accumulated a four-day total of five-under-283. They shot scores of 74, 66, 75 and 68 in the four rounds.
The Danish pair of Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen won the event with a score of 20-under-268.
The Chawrasia-Chikka combine struck five birdies and one bogey in round four.
The Indian team conceded they made too many errors in the foursomes sessions on Thursday and Saturday.
Chawrasia, a double winner on the Asian Tour this season, said: “It’s a great experience. We made lots of mistakes but I think we learned a lot with the top guys being in the field. I’ll like to come and play in another World Cup of Golf.”
Chikkarangappa echoed similar sentiments. “It’s a good experience. I learned so many things that I will take it back home with me. Due to the format which we’re not used to generally, coming over here and playing with SSP, we enjoyed ourselves although we would have wanted to play better.
“I’m sure the experience will carry on and hopefully we’ll do better. We played good but just had mistakes here and there. The dream would be to come back.”
