Indian duo returns a much-improved 66 in round two of the World Cup, hangs on to 14th place
The Indian team of SSP Chawrasia and Chikkarangappa S, who had started their campaign at the ISPS HANDA World Cup of Golf in Melbourne with a two-over-74 in round one on Thursday, returned a much-improved six-under-66 in the round two fourball session on Friday.
Chawrasia and Chikka’s two-day total of four-under-140 helped them hang on to their overnight tied 14th place.
The Danish pair of Soren Kjeldsen and Thorbjorn Olesen were the leaders at 12-under-132.
The Chawrasia-Chikka combine struck seven birdies against a lone bogey in round two.
Chawrasia played the anchor when Chikkarangappa struggled early on. “I was supported by my partner because whenever I hit a bad shot or even when I’m not in play, he just kept telling me it’s okay, it’s all right, just stay in there,” said Chikkarangappa, who is making his debut in the prestigious team event.
Chawrasia is hopeful they will move up the leaderboard with a strong showing in the third round. “We are a few shots behind, but there are two days to go and on this course, anything can happen. We just have to play our own game,” said Chawrasia, who has won twice this season on the Asian Tour.
