Viraj Madappa secures creditable fourth place at Yeangder TPC
India’s Viraj Madappa enjoyed a welcome return to form by finishing fourth at the Asian Tour's Yeangder Tournament Players Championship on Sunday.
Madappa, who had missed three cuts on the Asian Tour since his breakthrough win at home in August, returned a final round of four-under-68 at the Linkou International Golf and Country Club to finish with a tally of 11-under-277 at the US$500,000 event.
Viraj, who sank six birdies in exchange for two bogeys on Sunday, finished four shots behind champion John Catlin of the United States.
Madappa, who was in tied third place and one off the lead after round three, said, "I was a little disappointed I didn’t get off to a good start today but I gave myself lots of opportunities in the middle of the round. However, I’m still happy with the way I’m playing. It was tough mentally but I’m glad I stuck to my game plan and managed to stay focused.
"I feel like my game is there physically but I've got to work on my mental strength which was lacking in the last few weeks. If my mental strength is strong, I can work my way up the leaderboard."
Rashid Khan and Karandeep Kochhar finished tied 14th at four-under-284.
Shiv Kapur finished tied 30th at one-under-287.
Khalin Joshi was a further shot back in tied 41st.
Himmat Rai and Chikkarangappa finished tied 52nd at two-over-290.
SSP Chawrasia was tied 59th at four-over-292.
