    Twenty-year-old Viraj Madappa newest star on Indian golfing horizon; Becomes youngest Indian to win an international event with TAKE Solutions Masters triumph

    Twenty-year-old Viraj Madappa, playing his rookie season on the Asian Tour, became the newest star to emerge on the Indian golfing horizon as he scripted a historic win at the US$ 350,000 TAKE Solutions Masters 2018, an event co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour and PGTI, at the Karnataka Golf Association (KGA) course on Sunday.

    Madappa (70-65-66-67), who was tied fourth and two off the lead after round three, came up with a determined four-under-67 in the final round to prevail by two shots as his tournament tally added up to 16-under-268.

    India’s Khalin Joshi produced a ‘birthday special’, a flawless seven-under-64, at his home course, the KGA, on Saturday, to rise to tied second in round three of the Asian Tour and PGTI joint-sanctioned TAKE Solutions Masters.

    Joshi (67-69-64), who turned 26 on Saturday, totalled 13-under-200 after the penultimate round and trailed the leader Miguel Carballo (67) of Argentina by one shot. Bengaluru-based Joshi shared second place with Thailand’s Danthai Boonma (72), who was the overnight leader by five shots

    While Thailand’s Danthai Boonma led the field at the halfway stage of the TAKE Solutions Masters after a captivating 10-under-61 took his total to 15-under-127, the Indian duo of Chikkarangappa S and SSP Chawrasia too sparkled with scores of seven-under-64 and six-under-65 respectively to be the two best-placed Indians in fourth and fifth.

    Chikka and SSP, who have played as teammates at the World Cup previously, kept Indian hopes alive at the KGA as their totals read nine-under-133 and eight-under-134 respectively.
